meet our church family

our story

Mt Hermon Baptist Church was founded in 1786 and is considered the second oldest Baptist church west of the Allegheny Mountains. Initially meeting in members homes, with Elder Mathias Luse as pastor, the church grew and in 1788 a church building of log construction was built. A second Church House called the “Red Frame” was erected in 1793. The church continued to grow and many came to Christ as a result of the ministry. In 1842, the “Red Frame” was torn down and a new brick meeting house was built. This building is still part of the church facility today, however, it has been added to and updated a number of times over the years. Mt Hermon Church has a wonderful facility and a vibrant congregation that is friendly and welcoming.
From Mt Hermon Church’s humble beginnings, one thing remains the same. Mt Hermon Church exists to Reach, Teach and Equip. Mt Hermon Church is committed to spreading the Gospel both locally and throughout the world in obedience to “The Great Commission” found in Matthew 28: 16-20. Mt Hermon not only has local services, but also supports mission work through involvement with mission organization throughout the world. Mt Hermon has activities and classes for everyone, especially kids, where the truth of God’s Word is taught and each person is equipped with the knowledge of Truth so that they can in turn share the message of God’s love and grace with others.
We invite you to come and visit us. At Mt Hermon you will find a church with a welcoming congregation, classes and activities for adults and kids, vibrant worship, a sermon from the Bible, God’s Word and a seat waiting for you.

I accepted Jesus as my Lord and Savior when I was 10 years old at a church service at Mt Hermon. My family and I moved on to attend other churches over the years, but little did I know that God would lead me back to this wonderful church in Amity (Mt Hermon) many years later to become the pastor.

I attended Washington & Jefferson College and graduated in 1987 with a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration with a minor in religious studies. In the years following I was active in my church teaching Sunday School, leading youth events and eventually becoming the youth pastor at Mt Hermon in 2010. I felt God calling me back to school and so I enrolled at Liberty University and graduated in 2013 with a Master of Arts degree in Theological Studies. In 2018, I became the head pastor at Mt Hermon. I feel God has great things in store for our church! I enjoy spending time with my family. My wife Lisa leads the worship team and also leads the women’s ministry, Daughters of the King. When I have opportunity, I enjoy fishing, hunting and camping with my four sons, Caleb, Jacob, Seth and Daniel.

Nathan White

Nathan is a recent graduate of Messiah University graduating Summa Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science in Music Education and is certified as a teacher. It was while at Messiah that God started to speak to Nathan about a different direction for his life. He began to feel a call to youth ministry. Following this call he served as an intern at his home church, Conneaut Church of Christ, served as a counselor at Deep Valley Christian Service Camp and served as the Concert Choir Chaplain while at Messiah.

Nathan enjoys theology, Greek and Hebrew word studies, writing and arranging music and music theory. He is excited to begin serving as the Youth Pastor at Mt Hermon. He is looking for God to do amazing things with the youth group!

Youth Pastor

Kristin MacCartney

I am a lifelong member of Mt Hermon Church. I accepted the Lord at the age of 14 while attending an Aquire the Fire event with our youth group. I received a bachelor’s degree in Elementary and Special Education from Slippery Rock University. Following graduation, I was a Special Education teacher for Pittsburgh Public School. In 2009, I became the children’s director at Mt Hermon.

My husband, Ryan and I met in our church youth group. We have 3 boys that keep us on our toes. They also participate in our children’s ministry. In our free time, we enjoy watching our 2 oldest play baseball and basketball and chase around our youngest.
